Malaysians are one whole pampered lot i feel. they expect lots of subsidies to be given to them without considering the economic impact of such subsidies..
I do loathe and hate the new fuel hike just like the rest. but for once i feel that maybe reducing such subsidies may be a good move by the government. because continuing such subsidies will certainly bring adverse effects to our country's economic growth in the future.
i don't see the point that many hypocrites criticizing the recent fuel hike while they still choose to drink coffee in Starbucks and Coffee Bean but not Kopitiam Ah Leong. Dining in Victoria Station, Tony Roma's and not Warung Pak Salleh or Kedai Mamak Muthusamy.
however i do sympathize with those who really need the subsidy from government. especially those who are already living a rather thrifty lifestyle but still have to fork out even more money to pay for fuel and all the other consumer goods in the market.
government has of course subsidised many things in our lives already. but they should also learn to be more prudent in spending before telling us to be thrifty. what's the point of Pak Lah in abandoning the so called mega project bridge linking Malaysia and Singapore when he and his other ministers launched bunch of mega projects which turns out to be white elephants. so many corridors launched, Port Klang Free Zone and all. plus i feel that if ministers are asking us to be thrifty then leaders should take the lead by cutting their entertainment expenses by 50% instead of just 10%.
plus, there ain't no need for any lawatan sambil belajar's for ministers' wives if they do not contribute to our country's economic growth or the welfare of society. basically, if government don't exercise such actions, then it'll be just like pot calling the kettle black.
and although NGV is a good alternative source of energy, i just do not understand installing a RM4000 tank in your car now when the economic life of the car does not even reach to the point where such actions can result in saving you some money. i mean if you are not going to use the car for more than 5 years, tell me how much of savings from petroleum usage that are able to offset the cost of the NGV tank alone.
the right move now is to install tanks in NEW cars and not on your current vehicles if you are not planning to use your vehicle for more than ten years. and if demand for NGV goes up, price of natural gas will rise as well. so, installing a new tank now is not the right move.
and it's silly i think for our government to soothe our ears with a statement that compares Malaysia's oil prices with Singapore and Thailand. I mean Malaysia is a member of OPEC for god's sake. wanna compare, compare with other OPEC countries like Venezuela (16 cents per litre) and Saudi Arabia (38 cents per litre) and Nigeria (32cents per litre). although US is an OPEC member but due to the war in Iraq, it has to increase gas prices to offset the deficit cost by the war. so it would be silly for malaysia to compare oil prices with neighbours like singapore and thailand because it's like comparing size of a man's penis with the penis of a stallion.
i'm still thinking of ways to cut my expenses... once i can think of a few ways then i shall share it with everyone...

4 fuck-me-backs:
My fren jus added the NGV thanks..It cost him like RM 4 K but he said it cos him only 6 sen per kilometre as compared to nearly 20 sen/km which was before the petrol hike...
they just allow all petrol station to sell NGV instead of jus Petronas...
it's really worth it only if you travel far distance journeys frequently. if you're using it just to travel around jam packed areas in KL and your car is below 2000cc, the extra cost of the petrol will not even reach the cost of installing the NGV tank unless you really plan to drive the same car for around 5 years or more.
my maths is kinda bad. but if you see at how they calculated the benefits of driving a Honda Civic Hybrid in Sunday's Star then you'll know what i mean
But if you install NGV then you must be prepared to compete with taxis at the petrol station, sometimes for hours.
I agree that removing subsidies is good only if the money is not wasted. If not better subsidise the poor then sending a clown to space
definitely man. the problem is some still think that sending clown to space will bring good effects to society's welfare
